Description

13. APPROVAL OF THE COLLEGE & CAREER CENTER AT BOOKER MIDDLE SCHOOL GRANT PROPOSAL TO THE EDUCATION FOUNDATION OF SARASOTA COUNTY

Description
COMPETITIVE: Grant funds of $30,000 provide a place at Booker Middle School where students can learn about and gain skills to be prepared for college and the workforce.

24. APPROVAL OF THE SARASOTA DIGITAL CLASSROOM PLAN

Description
As required by section 1011.62(12)(b), Florida Statutes (F.S.) each District School Board shall submit to the Florida Department of Education a Digital Classrooms Plan (DCP) to meet the unique needs of students, schools and personnel.

FIELD TRIPS

25. APPROVAL FOR RIVERVIEW HIGH'S FUTURE FARMERS OF AMERICA STUDENTS TO ATTEND NATIONAL CONVENTION IN INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA ON OCTOBER 19-22, 2016

Description
Students will be attending leadership conference to build team membership, public speaking abilities, learn important college tactics, and how to recruit new members. The students will also have the opportunity to attend a career/college fair focused on information for the industry.

Recommendation
That the field trip for Riverview High's Future Farmers of America students to attend the National Convention in Indianapolis, Indiana on October 19-22, 2016 be approved as presented. 

26. APPROVAL FOR SARASOTA HIGH'S BAND AND GUARD TO ATTEND PEACH BOWL FESTIVITIES IN ATLANTA, GEORGIA ON DECEMBER 27, 2016 THROUGH JANUARY 1, 2017

Description
Students will apply skills learned to a performance situation and get judges feedback for improvement at the Peach Bowl while attending and/or performing in the parade, concert, jazz festival and at the football game during this trip.

Recommendation
That the field trip for Sarasota High's Band and Guard to attend Peach Bowl festivities in Atlanta, Georgia on December 27, 2016 through January 1, 2017 be approved as presented.

27. APPROVAL FOR NORTH PORT HIGH'S VARSITY BASEBALL TEAM TO PARTICIPATE IN THE 2017 WILDCAT CLASSIC BASEBALL TOURNAMENT IN CHATTANOOGA, TENNESSEE ON MARCH 15-20, 2017

Description
The tournament is taking place during our Spring Break and will allow the team to compete against some of the top teams in Tennessee and Georgia.  This trip will provide opportunities to reinforce the important values of teamwork, trust, respect and sportsmanship.

Recommendation
That the field trip for North Port High's Varsity Baseball team to participate in the 2017 Wildcat Classic Baseball Tournament in Chattanooga, Tennessee on March 15-20, 2017 be approved as presented.

28. APPROVAL FOR BOOKER HIGH'S JROTC CLASS TO ATTEND WEST POINT MILITARY ACADEMY IN WEST POINT, NEW YORK ON OCTOBER 13-16, 2016

Description
This trip was rescheduled by West Point from September 8-11, 2016 to October 13-16, 2016.  Trip is to reinforce JROTC curriculum through visiting the oldest Army fort in the nation.

Recommendation
That the field trip for Booker High's JROTC class to attend West Point Military Academy in West Point, New York on October 11-13, 2016 be approved as presented.

29. APPROVAL FOR BOOKER HIGH'S DANCE TEAM TO GO TO NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK TO TAKE CLASSES WITH VARIOUS DANCE COMPANIES ON NOVEMBER 30 THROUGH DECEMBER 4, 2016

Description
Students will gain firsthand knowledge about the expectations and requirements to be a professional performer in the city. They will attend professional classes and performances in order to assess individual strengths and weaknesses.

Recommendation
That the field trip for Booker High's Dance team to go to New York City, New York to take classes with various dance companies on November 30 through December 4, 2016 be approved as presented.

30. APPROVAL FOR BOOKER HIGH'S COLLEGE FOR EVERY STUDENT LEADERS TO ATTEND THE NATIONAL CONFERENCE IN BURLINGTON, VERMONT ON OCTOBER 27-30, 2016

Description
The CFES National Conference will expose students to educators, corporate leaders, college officials, and college students from across the country.  They will be provided with resources, tools, strategies, and networking opportunities that will help enhance the development of their post-secondary plan.

Recommendation
That the field trip for Booker High's College for Every Student Leaders to attend the national conference in Burlington, Vermont on October 27-30, 2016 be approved as presented.

MATERIALS MANAGEMENT

31. APPROVAL OF CLASSIFICATION OF INOPERATIVE EQUIPMENT AND FURNITURE AS PROPERTY TO BE DELETED

Description
The custodian of the property (cost center heads) have certified it to be traded in on new equipment, unaccounted for, not repairable or otherwise inoperable. Property still on hand after reallocation will be salvaged for any useful parts and then sold at auction.

Recommendation
That the classification of equipment and furniture, as property to be deleted, be approved as presented.

32. APPROVAL TO AWARD BID #17-0009 FOR FIRE EXTINGUISHER AND KITCHEN HOOD SERVICE AND SUPPLIES

Description
Bids to provide 'Fire Extinguisher and Kitchen Hood Service and Supplies' were received from five vendors on September 7, 2016. The bid of All Florida Fire Equipment was the best low bid meeting the advertised specifications based on a sealed scenario. This bid is for a period of one year with an option to renew for two additional one-year periods. The funds for these purchases are contained in the transfer from capital budget allocated to the Facilities Department.

Recommendation
That the bid of All Florida Fire Equipment for 'Fire Extinguisher and Kitchen Hood Service and Supplies' in an amount not to exceed $150,000.00, be approved as presented.

33. APPROVAL AND/OR RATIFICATION OF CONSTRUCTION SERVICES' CHANGE ORDER(S)

Description
The Construction Services' Change Order(s) are summarized on the enclosure for ease of review. These changes collectively total a decrease of ($390,839.32) in gross contract dollars. Included in these change orders are ($390,839.32) credit for Direct Material Purchases; the corresponding Direct Material Purchase Orders of ($368,633.00) result in a net of $22,217.32 in sales tax savings.
